This is a fictional book about a nurse working in a maximum women's prison and about her life inside and outside of work. The main character "Roxy" is an inspiration to the meaning of nursing and the hardships and joys that go along with being a nurse. Her family and her husband keep her going and keep her in a stable frame of mind. She needs them as much as they need her, especially after the "other" world she works in, she must compare and return to what is normal or lose her perspective and values.

It’s incredible the lives that these female (and male) offenders lead. How prison personnel cope with them day after day I will never understand, but thank goodness they are willing to do it.This book was riveting; however, it does not appear to have been professionally edited at all and was difficult to follow at times.

The Girls edition by Gloria Guyton Bradley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved this book so much. I usually don't read fiction books, but a friend told me about "The Girls". I think this is a book about things that no one has ever written before. I was shocked at times. It is written in a journal type text and I felt like I was entering the prison with nurse Roxy. I would go to see this at the movies. It was so inspirational and the last page made me cry. I hope Gloria will write another book. You can tell she really cares about these incarcerated women when nobody else does.
This book upon my reading it immediately made me feel the inmates girls personal physical medical was given to the public which in medical is the breaking of the medical oath. None of us would see fit to any nurse or Doctor sharing our personal medical information. Secondly, It seems this so called nurse rn-2 whom wrote this book rather betrayed her patients and is misusing their misfortune for her personal gain financially. Also, what right if any does any Doctor or nurse have to publicly in libel to state what a person is criminally charged with? I must say this book seems as a person whom profits from the misery of others, afterall what nurse is caring for the patients at this time?
Mr.EarlThe Girls
Gloria Bradley opens a window into life in a women's prison. As a correctional nurse, she tells it like it is, and it not something most outsiders even want to hear. If a gal you know is heading down the wrong track, this book may make useful reading to guide that person in a different direction.
Gloria writes in a first person style, almost as if they were notes from a diary, which they very well might be. But it is captivating and I was drawn through the book until I finished. I shared the book with a few friends and they said, in all candor, it was more than they wanted to know about "that other world". I, for one, am glad she told her story. It is indeed a world few people would want to venture into.
If you want to read a book that is different from the normal pablum we so often encounter, this one would be a worthwhile purchase.
I enjoyed it, very informative of what goes on in prison
I am glade I purchased this book, I could not put it down. It kept me entertained and also made me see a differnt side of life I have not really been introduced to before. I think this book is very helpful it shares personal tragedies yet it does not call out anyone because the Author was great about protecting the peoples privacy. I have read this book and I truly enjoyed it also I have and will recommend this to all my friends and family.
Painfully insightful book about what it is like to be a woman in prison.
It’s incredible the lives that these female (and male) offenders lead. How prison personnel cope with them day after day I will never understand, but thank goodness they are willing to do it.
